You’ve probably met a lot of people in your life. As for me, I’ve met thousands… maybe even more, especially in my profession. But only half of all the people you’ve met you can actually remember. At this point you’d probably divide the people you can remember into two; people who leave and people who stay.

People who leave could be any of the following:
- People who have been introduced to you by other people who themselves aren’t close to you.
- People who randomly smile at you on the street who probably thought you were someone they knew
- People you talked with while waiting on a random queue in some random government office
- People who greet you at the grocery store or the fast food restaurant or the cab driver you tipped extra a week before.
- People whose foot you stepped on while trying to get off the bus or the train.
- People who actually have made a huge difference in your life but you have to leave naturally, like your teachers back in primary school.
- People you left… like your ex-boyfriend or ex-husband… etc.

People who stay could be any of the following:
- Your family… like you have a choice?! (LOL)
- Your best friend
- Your friends in high school
- Your roommates in college
- Your cousins
- Etcetera

You’re probably still stuck on the first part. You’re probably still thinking of your ex. As a matter of fact, I stayed in that item for a few minutes. But there is something you call “moving on” that helps you go through pain unscathed.

I can remember a few years back when I met a guy who made quite an impression in my life. We grew so close to the point that we already knew everything about each other without having to commit to anything. And before we knew it, two years have passed and I found out he was engaged. It came as a surprise but since we didn’t make any commitments, it all just vanished quite abruptly.

I was a little heartbroken. I know there was no commitment or anything but I somehow invested my feelings on “the relationship”.

We have stopped talking. At least for myself I can say that. But last month on my birthday he sent me a birthday wish in which he also said “I will always love you”. And his loving me, in common sense, should be inappropriate coming from an engaged man. But to be the better person, I thought it's best that I ignored his show and just went on with my life.
That was a long one.

But it made me realize that, hey, people who leave really haven’t left. Perhaps only an advanced Alzheimer’s disease can make them leave completely if not death. For as long as you can remember them, they will forever be "people who stay".
